The I-Didn’t-Ever-Do-Anything-Crafty Crafter: Vivian K

Here’s our interview with Vivian K, who had never made cards before she came to Spark a Smile a few months ago!

What were your first thoughts when you heard about making Spark A Smile cards?
I thought it was interesting and a good way to make good friends

How long have you been paper-crafting?
3 months

Where do you get your card design ideas? Who or what inspires you?
I see different shapes and designs in scrap paper and other items and arrange them until I see something I like.
I believe God gives me ideas and inspiration.

What is your favorite product or technique at the moment?

I don’t really have one

What is your biggest challenge as a card-maker?

Cost of supplies

[Editor’s note: Anyone is welcome to dig through our Spark a Smile stash for supplies to take home! Many of the supplies we have were donated specifically for this purpose.]

What has been the biggest reward or most fulfilling aspect of making Spark a Smile cards?

Making people smile, and learning that I have a talent I never knew I had.

Tell us about the first time you made a housewarming card for your daughter and son-in-law.

I made a card for my daughter and son-in-law for when thet bought their first house and my son-in-law didn’t realize I that I had made it until my daughter told him. That made me feel good about doing cards.

What advice do you have for fellow card-makers?
Lay out whatever you want on a card and rearrange it until you like it. It may surprise you on what will go together.  Use scraps! They can make amazing designs.

Anything else you’d like to add?
I feel that going to Spark a Smile is fun and I’m making friends. God bless to all of you.
